This past week I got to go to a destination wedding, sans children, for 5 days.
I was surprised at how much NOT being responsible for keeping 6 other little humans alive brought out the inner child in me…
I had almost forgotten how much I love playing in the ocean — body surfing waves to shore, digging for crabs, and watching the gold flecks sparkle in the water — and how much I love playing in the pool — racing my little brother, doing handstand contests, pretending to be mermaids and having tea parties on the bottom of the pool with friends…
I seriously tapped into that inner child thing, and it was AMAZING 🙂
And then today, the topic of the nervous system resilience class I am taking was partially on the importance of play for our nervous system regulation. Crazy timing!
So I can add my personal and very recent testimonial to the evidence that’s out there about the power and importance of play.
So whatever “play” looks like for you — whether that’s doing a dance party in your kitchen with your kids, riding a dirtbike up a mountain pass, playing cards or a board game with friends, or whatever else lights you up, brings you out of reality for a bit, and lightens your spirit — go for it!
Go and play, my friends! Let yourself (or make yourself) take the time to step back and do something you love. It’s good for you 😉
Love,
Bethany
