Do What Brings In the Joy

  • by

Hi friends!

I wanted to highlight today a podcast episode that came out a few weeks ago – it was a conversation with Jenni Foltz, and there were so many good nuggets that I got from that discussion. I want to share a few of them with you, and encourage you to go and listen to it if you haven’t yet.

*Do what brings in the joy. Jenni spoke about many things that she tried as part of her healing journey, and one thing she mentioned was dance. She said of dancing: “I did it for the joy.” Isn’t that beautiful?! Do things that just bring you joy – that in and of itself is healing.

*Ask, “What is the gift opportunity of this?” – when challenges arise (and they will), direct your mind to find the learning/experience/growth/gifts that those challenges offer. I promise they are there.

* “You see more when you go slow.” This is true physically (walking versus driving – you notice more of what’s around you when you slow down), and I believe it’s true on a deeper level. If we slow down we can see others more clearly, understand situations more deeply, and generally increase our awareness. It reminds me of some beautiful advice my sister-in-law’s mother gave regarding interacting with children: “Stop, look, and listen.” We’re used to giving that advice to children as they’re learning to cross the street safely, but think of the growth and increased connection that will happen with those children (or anyone else in our lives), if we stop looking at our phone or doing 5 other things at the same time, look them in the eye, and truly listen to them. I feel like this is a powerful reminder that I need in my own life.

*Jenni also shared about one modality that has made an enormous difference for her in her recovery – so much so that she became a practitioner of it herself: craniosacral therapy. She describes what it is and how it helps.

So much goodness in this conversation! Give it a listen!
