We have all heard that mindfulness is important and helpful. (And if you haven’t heard it from me enough, don’t worry — I won’t drop the subject 😉
I frequently tell people to take cues from the toddlers or dogs in their lives if they want to know how to be present and practice mindfulness.
Little kids and dogs have mastered this skill.
When they do something, they do it with their whole heart and soul, with all of their energy and attention.
They are present, in the moment, engaging all their senses and not thinking at all of the past or the future.
This is the secret to mindfulness.
The other day I was watching my 4-year-old daughter as she was playing in the bath.
She was singing a little song, filling up a balloon slowly with water, pouring the water in with a little glittery pink beaker.
She was happy as a clam and fully engaged in that activity, that moment.
Shortly after that sweet moment, she showed me the trick she had discovered—that she could squeeze the water out of the balloon to make a fountain…
However, she aimed the fountain out of the bath and it splashed all over the floor.
She immediately reassured me, “It’s ok. You can clean it up.”
I did so.
Mindfully 😉
Cheers,
Bethany
