Challenges and Support
Impact On Life
A concussion can make a huge impact on a person’s life. It can affect their personality, alter emotions, create seemingly-inexplicable fatigue and overwhelm, and cause difficulty with vision, balance, and cognition. These challenges, along with memory issues, light and noise sensitivity, alterations to sleep and ability to concentrate, and other common symptoms all combine to make life after a concussion extremely challenging. In addition to all of this, those with concussions and those who love them often are dealing with fear of re-injury, frustration with the pace of recovery, and questions about what the future will hold.
Invisible Injury
Many times people do not realize that the things they are dealing with are caused by a concussion. And many times, the people around them do not understand the lasting impact a hit to the head can have. Concussion is often an invisible injury, without external evidence that others can easily see and understand. Therefore, people with concussions may not receive the mental and emotional and physical support that they need from themselves or others.
How I Can Help
As a neurological occupational therapist and life coach, I have a unique perspective that allows me to understand and empathize, to offer ideas and tips to help manage and improve symptoms, and to give perspective and help people work through the fears and emotions that come along with this type of injury. I have developed an 8-week program that teaches these strategies and methods to help concussion victims and their loved ones overcome the roadblocks to recovery so they can thrive in their daily lives.
